The reputation of Brazilian coffee has experienced its ups and downs over the years. While it’s true that they’re the number one exporter of coffee in terms of volume worldwide, the attention to quality in the cup, especially among the small-yet-growing specialty coffee sector, has left something to be desired.
Eastlick Coffee has offered Brazilian coffee since our founding, a cornerstone origin of our mission to “specialize in sourcing specialty coffees with an eye toward unique flavor profiles that both challenge and comfort a wide spectrum of coffee drinkers.” Finding and buying Brazilian coffee is easy, but sourcing and roasting high-quality Brazilian coffee is a more difficult task.
We return this year with our second offering from the famed Denomination of Origin Cerrado Mineiro region, a mid-elevation savannah biome that produces some of the best coffees in all of Brazil. What better place to give the famed Gesha variety a chance to thrive?
The Corsi brothers were born in this region, their parents having migrated north after losing their first coffee farm to a devastating frost in the late 1970s. Recognizing the unique micro-climate and the need to step away from the family business of commercial coffee, the brothers began experimenting with specialty production at Fazenda Rodomunho just over six years ago, in which they apply best-practices to soil and water management, as well as attentive and unique fermentation protocols. Alongside these practices, the Corsis have now expanded into variety experimentation and selection. This lot is a gesha seed that was brought to Fazenda Rodomunho from a friend of the Corsis in El Salvador, who himself spent multiple generations adapting and breeding the seed he was gifted from an award-winning farm in Panama.
The result is a flavor distinction in the cup – The grape from the natual process, the fudge from the Brazilian terroir, and the Rose from the gesha gene. An experience not to be missed!
