Ana Maria Donneys is a fifth-generation coffee producer from the powerhouse “Coffee Axis” region of central Colombia, in the department of Quindío. She came back from a budding career in Bogotá to take over the family business after her grandfather, Primitivo Correal, unexpectedly passed away.
Rebranding the family farms under the new name “Café Primitivo”, Ana took charge to bring these traditional farms into the modern age. A product of her generation, Ana knew the power of networking and social media to begin spreading the word of her family’s brand, as well as putting in the extra work at the cupping lab to develop Primitivo’s signature flavor.
This lot represents an “improved” version of the farm’s historic offering: A washed Colombian coffee that is drinkable in any application in any setting – the type of cup that you back for more time and time again.
Additionally, this is an anaerobically processed coffee, meaning the enclosed containers in which these coffees were fermented provided a carbon-dioxide rich environment which kept the coffee from oxidizing too quickly, creating a new depth of flavor that expresses itself as lactic-forward red fruit. Cherry is a big note in the cup, along with some dried fruit and subtle citrus undertones.
