Info: When we were first introduced to the word “Burundi”, it was in the context of world economy. Burundi, we were told, was the world’s poorest economy. Tribal conflict and colonial legacy left the country with little hope. As you can imagine, growing coffee has faced all the challenges.

Access to information, transportation and cutting edge technology are all things that are working against Burundi’s economy. On the other hand, excellent terroir and application of best practices in wastewater treatment, sanitation and lot separation have led to improved exports year after year since 2012.

With some of the highest elevation in Burundi, you’ll smell and taste this Buhorwa a mile away. Attentive quality control allows for excellent lot separation, which allows for both volume sales (to stay in business), and higher cup scores for specialty buyers.

This is our third year in a row buying from Burundi through our friends at Crop to Cup Coffee Importers. The mutually beneficial relationship continues to provide us (and you!) some of the finest coffee this country has to offer year after year.

All coffee is roasted to order every Monday and shipped the following day through USPS priority mail unless otherwise specified.
